49-euro ticket: Only available digitally? What you need to know

The 49-euro ticket, which will become a 58-euro ticket from 2025, is only available digitally and not in paper form.

Why the 49-euro ticket is only available digitally

The Deutschland Ticket is available for local public transport throughout Germany and is intended to make travel more attractive. So far, there has always been talk of a digital 49-euro ticket – from January 2025, it will become a 58-euro ticket. Since the beginning of 2024, the Deutschland Ticket is no longer available in paper form, as this was only intended for the transition period.

  • Unlike other tickets, the 58-euro ticket is not available from Deutsche Bahn machines. You can buy the Deutschland Ticket in the DB Navigator app or on the Deutsche Bahn website.
  • It is also available at the DB travel center, but the railway writes on its website: “Due to different distribution contracts, it may be possible that an immediate sale at the DB travel center is not possible.”
  • It's a long way to get the 58-euro ticket: Many other transport associations offer the ticket in their respective app or online. There is also the Deutschlandticket app from Hansecom Public Transport Ticketing Solutions and Dein Deutschlandticket from Mobility Inside.
  • The aim behind digitalization is to generate data and to be able to better track how many people are traveling on which routes. This should improve local transport.
