Which network does PremiumSIM use? Network coverage and quality

PremiumSim offers affordable tariffs. Before you become a customer, you should know which network the provider uses and what the coverage is like.

PremiumSim: Telefónica subsidiary uses O2 network

PremiumSim is a Drillisch brand and uses the O2 network, which in turn belongs to the Spanish mobile operator Telefónica.

  • In the CHIP network test, O2 only came third and had to admit defeat to Telekom and Vodafone.
  • Although the provider offers a 5G high-speed network like Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, the network coverage still leaves much to be desired.
  • The following applies: In urban areas, the network coverage is good to very good and the data rates, i.e. the Internet speed, are also decent.
  • This becomes problematic in rural areas, where reception is weaker and data rates are lower.

PremiumSIM in the O2 network: What you can expect

The telephone quality is generally very good in the O2 network and problems are rare. Internet performance actually varies from place to place.

  • PremiumSim’s tariffs include 5G and the predecessor technology LTE 4G.
  • The maximum download speed is 50 Mbit/s. However, this is rarely achieved in reality. This is usually a theoretical value. The reason: many users share a cell – and the more users there are, the lower the speeds are.
  • If you have used up the included data volume of the PremiumSim tariff you have booked, the Internet speed will be throttled for the rest of the month – to a maximum of 64 kbit/s. Surfing the Internet will then no longer be possible.
