Setting up a Word page is not too difficult if you know the necessary tools. These will help you to quickly find your way around the program.

Word page: How to set it up

Setting up a page in Microsoft Word is an important step to ensure that your document looks professional and meets your desired requirements. The first step is to open the page layout and create the page margins.

  1. Open Word: Start the program and open a new or existing document.
  2. Reiter „Layout“: Click on the tab “Layout“. In older versions it may also be called “page layout”. In some cases, portrait and landscape formats can also be used in a document.
  3. Page margins: In the “Page Setup” group you will find the option “Page margins“.
  4. Predefined option: Word offers several predefined page margin options such as “Normal“, „Narrow“, „Broad“.
  5. Set custom page margins: If the predefined options do not meet your requirements, click “Custom page margins“. Here you can manually adjust the top, bottom, left and right margins.



Paper size, orientation and columns

Right next to the page margins you will find the option “Size“. By default, A4 is set, but you can also choose other sizes such as A5, Letter or custom sizes.

  1. Orientation: In the same group as the page margins you will find the option “Alignment“. Decide whether you want your page to be in portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) format.
  2. Columns: If you need multiple columns, clickColumns“ This option is also located in the Layout tab. Choose a predefined number of columns or click “More columns“ to make custom settings.
  3. Add background color or image: Die Option “Page color” can also be found in the Layout tab. Here you can select a background color or set an image as the background.
  4. Headers and footers: Double-click at the top or bottom of the page. This will open the header or footer area. Enter the desired text, such as the title, date or add images.
  5. Save document: Click the floppy disk icon in the top left corner or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S to save your changes. Save your document frequently as you work to avoid losing any changes.
