To level up quickly in Clash of Clans, keep an eye on your town hall. It can store resources, currency and elixir.

With each Town Hall level, the amount of gold you have to pay to find enemies to attack increases. The longer you wait, the less you have to pay for attacks overall.
Additionally, each level of your town hall reduces the amount of resources you receive from villages with lower town hall levels. If you upgrade your town hall too early, you will receive far fewer resources from enemies and will have to invest more time to be able to upgrade your remaining buildings.
Be sure to protect your town hall with walls and other defensive buildings. It cannot defend itself in the event of war.
Before you upgrade your town hall, you should first upgrade all surrounding and other buildings to the maximum level.

In Clash of Clans you can quickly earn a lot of points with achievements and thus level up.

Many of the achievements can be completed quickly and without much effort. This will help you progress quickly, especially at the beginning of the game.
You will also receive lots of free gems when you complete achievements. You can use these to purchase more construction workers, for example.
If you reach the maximum score, you will even receive an extra reward.

In order not to be overrun by other armies, it is worth taking a look at the defense and attack strategy.

Avoid building defenses directly on the wall. It may be tempting to reinforce the wall, but once it falls, your defenses will soon be gone.
It is therefore better to build your defensive buildings where they can fight for as long as possible. If in doubt, you may have to sacrifice less important buildings to maintain the defense.
Also, don't attack villages with little loot. At the same time, don't choose overpowered opponents. Otherwise, you'll just waste energy pointlessly.
While your shield is active, for example after an attack, limit your activity to building or rebuilding your village in order to level up. Do not carry out any attacks during this time, otherwise the cooldown of your shield will be reduced.
