No sound on iPhone – possible causes

No sound on iPhone - possible causes

If your iPhone no longer makes any sound, meaning you can no longer listen to music, for example, there are various possible causes.

No sound and no music on iPhone: Identify the problem

iOS distinguishes between “normal” audio playback and tones. Therefore, first check whether this can narrow down the problems:

  1. Open the “Music” app on your iPhone and start playing any song. Slide the volume slider all the way to the right until the volume is at full volume.
  2. If you can hear the music but your iPhone remains silent when you receive calls, this is an indication that the sound settings are incorrect. Stop the music and go back to the home screen.
  3. Now open the “Settings” and select the menu item “Sounds”. Approximately in the middle you will see the option “Ring and notification tones”. If you slide the slider all the way to the right, all sounds will be played clearly.

Is the phone on silent?

Check if your iPhone is set to “mute” using the switch on the left edge of the iPhone.

  • This is the case if the switch is highlighted in orange.
  • Use the two buttons “+” and “-” to change the volume.

Test the headphone mode

The problem could also be that your iPhone is still in headphone mode.

  • Plug and unplug your headphones several times.
  • Then try playing through the speaker again.

Use the Control Center

In the Control Center, you can not only control the volume, but also check whether your iPhone is playing sound through external speakers.

  • Activate “Flight mode” there. This will disconnect all connections to other devices.
  • If the music was previously played via an external Bluetooth speaker or via Airplay, the connection is now interrupted and the internal speakers should work.
