Cancelling a 49-euro ticket – how it works & what you need to consider

If you want to suspend your 49-euro ticket or stop using it altogether, you must cancel your subscription in good time. This is easier and quicker than most passengers think.

How to cancel the 49-euro ticket

How exactly the cancellation of the Germany Ticket works depends on where you took out the subscription.

  • For example, if you purchased the ticket using your Deutsche Bahn account, log in there – for example on the Deutsche Bahn website. Please note that your “user name” can also be your email address.
  • Then select your account overview by first clicking on your account icon in the top right and then on “Manage customer account”.
  • Click on “My Subscriptions” in the topic bar on the left side of the screen.
  • Under this point you can cancel the 49-euro ticket.
  • With other providers, it is usually also possible to cancel the ticket directly online in the customer account. Otherwise, you can also cancel in writing by email or post.

Further information on cancelling the 49-euro ticket

When you take out a subscription for the Deutschland Ticket, please pay close attention to the cancellation terms.

  • The Germany Ticket has a minimum validity of one calendar month and usually costs 49 euros.
  • If your employer subsidizes your 49-euro ticket as a job ticket by at least 25 percent, the federal and state governments will also give you another 5 percent discount. As an employer, you can therefore get at least a 30 percent discount on your job ticket. This means that the Germany ticket would cost you only 34.30 euros instead of 49.
  • In general, the 49-euro ticket is a monthly and not an annual subscription and can therefore be canceled monthly. Please note, however, that many transport companies have set the cancellation period three to two weeks before the end of the month.
  • To be on the safe side, you should cancel by the 10th of the current month at the latest so that your subscription is actually terminated in the following month.
  • If you do not cancel in time, your subscription will automatically be extended for another month.
