Excel: Using square meters and cubic meters

Excel doesn't recognize square meters or cubic meters. At least that's what you might think, because neither can be found in the “units”.

How to use square and cubic meters in Excel

Even though square and cubic meters are not listed as units in Excel, you can use m² and m³ in Excel with a simple trick:

  1. Select the column in which you want to display all units in square meters or cubic meters. Optionally, you can also select individual cells.
  2. Right-click on the selected cells to open the context menu and select “Format Cells”.
  3. In the “Numbers” menu, under “Custom” in the input bar, you can specify cubic or square meters yourself.
  4. To do this, write the following in the line: (0 “m²”) or (0 “m³”) (without the brackets). You can create the small numbers with (AltGr)+(2) or (AltGr)+(3).
