You can use Excel to calculate nth roots and the cotangent. However, there is no direct function input for extracting roots.
Excel: Calculate nth root and cotangent
Excel does not offer any special functions for the task described. However, the task can be mathematically rewritten quite easily and reduced to another function:
- The nth root means nothing other than the 1/nth power of a value. To calculate the nth root of the value x, you can therefore type the following function into any cell in Excel: “=POWER(x;1/n)”. Alternatively, this also works with “=x^(1/n)”
- The calculation of the cotangent can be reduced to the tangent. The cotangent of a value is the same as 1 divided by the tangent of this value. When calculating, however, you must always remember that Excel expects the angle arguments in radians.
- To calculate the cotangent of an angle “a” in degrees, enter the function “=1/TAN(RADIANS(a))”. Alternatively, you can also calculate the cotangent with “=1/TAN(a*PI()/180)”.
