Set up Mac filter on the WLAN router

For better control of access to your WLAN, you can set up a Mac filter.

Setting up a MAC address filter for WLAN via the Fritz!Box

With a FRITZ!Box you can set up the MAC filter via the user menu. You can then grant or restrict access.

  1. Enter “fritz.box” in the address bar of your browser. Then enter your password.
  2. In the menu bar, click “WLAN” and then “Security”.
  3. Then click on “Restrict WLAN access” and select “Restrict WLAN access to known WLAN devices”. Click on “Apply” to save the settings.
  4. This means that access to your WiFi network is initially limited to the devices that are already connected. If you want to add more devices, click on “Add WiFi device”. Here you must then enter the MAC address of the new device. You can find this in the WiFi settings of the device you want to connect.

Mac filter on other routers

If you have a router other than a FRITZ!Box, you can still activate a MAC filter.

  1. In the address bar of your browser, enter “http://router” or “http://192.168.2.1”.
  2. Under the menu item “Firewall” you can select “MAC Address Filtering”. Activate the filter to restrict WLAN access.
  3. To connect devices, you must now enter the individual MAC addresses in the field provided.
  4. Even if you want to block access, you must enter the MAC address, select “Block” and then click “Add”.
  5. Finally, click “Apply Changes” to save your settings.
