Create folders on the Android home screen – here's how

Android: Sort apps alphabetically in the menu

By creating folders on your Android home screen, you can sort similar apps into groups to free up more space.

How to create folders on the Android home screen

On your home screen you have the most important apps at a glance. If too many accumulate, it quickly becomes confusing. The solution: you can create folders on the Android home screen.

  1. Tap an icon for a few seconds until you can move it.
  2. Place the icon over another app. As soon as you lift your finger from the screen, Android creates a folder.
  3. You can then drag more apps into the folder.
  4. Press the folder to open it. A selection of all the apps you have grouped in it will appear.

Android: Rename new folder

Android automatically names new folders “Untitled Folder”. You can change the name as you wish.

  1. Open a folder by clicking on it.
  2. Now tap on the title at the bottom of the folder – for a new folder, tap on “Unknown folder”.
  3. Now you can name the folder.
