Save HTML page as Word document

If you want to save an HTML page as a Word document for further editing, you can convert it in just a few steps.

How to save an HTML page as a Word document

You can convert any web page in HTML format into a Word format. Here's how:

  1. The HTML document must be on your PC. If you want to convert a page from the Internet into a Word document, first save the page to your hard drive (“File” > “Save as”).
  2. You can load an HTML document into Word using the menu command “File” > “Open”. Make sure that you select “Web Pages” in the “Save as type” combo box in the “Open” dialog.
  3. After Word has opened the HTML document, you can save it as a Word file using the menu command “File” > “Save As”.
  4. Specify “Word document (*.doc)” as the “File type” option.
  5. However, this procedure only works without problems with pure HTML documents. If formatting is implemented in the HTML code using JavaScript or similar programming languages, this will be lost during the conversion.
  6. If the document contains images that should not only be displayed as links, you must embed them. To do this, go to “File” > “Info” “Edit File Links”.
  7. Now select all the images in the list and click “Unlink” and then “Ok”. The links will now be replaced by images.
  8. Finally, you can manually delete any annoying logos, navigation lines, etc. that were copied from the website into the Word document.
