Since the summer semester of 2024, students have been able to use public transport nationwide with the reduced 49 euro ticket for 29.40 euros. Now the ticket will be more expensive from 2025.
49 euro ticket for students: From winter semester 2025/2026 you will pay more
It usually works like this for students in Germany: As soon as they are enrolled, they receive a ticket in addition to the certificate of study, which is included in the semester fees paid. However, since the summer semester of 2024, this has replaced the so-called Germany ticket, also known as the 49 euro ticket. With the price increase from January 1, 2025 to the regular 58 euros per month, students will also face higher costs despite discounts.
- Although the cheap 49 euro ticket was available from May 1, 2023, students only benefited from it from the winter semester of 2023/2024 due to unfavorable time overlaps. At that time, the federal and state governments had agreed on a cheaper Germany ticket for students.
- Around three million students were able to get a semester ticket for 29.40 euros per month based on the Deutschlandticket. Since the regular 49-euro ticket will change to a 58-euro ticket in January 2025, students will also face higher prices.
- From 2025 you will pay 34.80 euros for your monthly ticket instead of 29.40 euros. However, this will only affect young people from the winter semester of 2025/2026.
