How Facetime works: Sign in and get started
Facetime is a video calling service from Apple. Before you can start using the service, you need to set up Facetime:
- In order for your friends to be able to reach you, you must open the “Facetime” app in the “Settings” on iPad and iPhone and enter your Apple ID (email address). You can then be reached on Facetime under this number.
- Facetime can now also be used on Android devices and Windows Phone. On these devices too, you simply download the app and log in.
- Use on Android and Windows Phone devices is possible from iOS 15 or iPadOS 15.
Facetime: Start a phone call (audio/video)
The FaceTime app automatically accesses your created contacts – on both the iPhone and the iPad.
- That's why after opening Facetime, you can enter a name from your phone memory into the search field using the plus at the top left. If you press the plus, you can choose from the alphabetical contact list.
- When you select a name from the list, all contact and address entries are displayed. Where available, this ranges from email address, telephone and mobile phone numbers to street names and house numbers.
- By touching the cell phone number or email address, you can then start the audio or video call using the corresponding icon.
- You can also call up the contact in the address book and then simply touch the “FaceTime” button – a connection will be established. Of course, Siri can also help you: “Face Time with Mother”.
Use Facetime with Android and Windows
To use Facetime on Android and Windows you need a link that needs to be shared. Use the link to open the video chat in the browser.
- Users of an iPhone with iOS 15 or newer open Facetime and click on the “Create link” option at the top of the screen. You can send the link by email or share it via social media.
- Android or Windwos users then simply tap on the Facetime link they receive, which automatically redirects them to the existing browser.
- Now all you have to do is enter a name and agree to use the camera and microphone. The video chat then opens automatically.
