- Telegram stores messages from private or group chats in a cloud. Unlike other messaging services, caching chat messages is therefore not necessary. For example, if you change a smartphone, you can easily continue the chats on the new mobile device.
- The instant messenger is also characterized above all by its security. Users can hide their phone numbers and display any username. This ensures anonymity is also maintained in chat histories.
- In addition, Telegram offers many other functions to increase the security of the platform. For example, you can set up a PIN lock for the Telegram app to prevent unauthorized people from accessing your account.
Advertising and data protection for Telegram users
Telegram is a free program. Telegram does not display any advertisements, which is why the messaging service is very popular with many users.
- The chats between users are not automatically end-to-end encrypted. Messages between different devices are therefore encrypted and decrypted again. Unknown people can therefore only read the messages if they have access to a user’s device.
- The data and text messages are usually stored on a Telegram server in encrypted form. Only the operator can view the data. However, to prevent storage, you can use the “Secret Chat” function, which is not possible with group chats.
- Telegram also offers many other user-friendly functions. Accounts that are not actively used for six months, for example, are automatically deleted. Users can join channels or create automatic chat bots. You can also send emojis, stickers and GIFs via the messaging service.
