Find My Device: What you need to know about the Google service

The Android Device Manager “Find My Device” is a tool to find your Android smartphone or tablet. This is particularly helpful in the event of theft.

Find My Device: Activate the Android Device Manager on the device

Before you can use the online service, you must activate “Find My Device” on your mobile phone.

  1. Open the preinstalled Google Find Device app. If you can't find the app, download it from the Play Store.
  2. After opening the app, you will be asked to log in with your Google account.
  3. On your device, open theSettings, tap Google, then tap All Services and Find My Device. Then activate the “Find my device” option. Tip: If you have a device running Android 5 or earlier, you can find the Find My Device settings in the Google Settings app.
  4. Your device is now registered and can be located from your Google account.

Locate device: This is how it works with “Find My Device”

If you have lost your smartphone, you can use “Find My Device” to locate it, lock it, delete the data on it or make it ring.

  • Make sure in advance that your mobile device is currently connected to the mobile data network or a WiFi network. Without an internet connection, your device cannot be located.
  • You also need to activate the GPS function, otherwise you will only see the last known location. All other functions are also available to you without determining your location.
  • Now open the “android.com/find.” service on another device – for example a laptop. To do this, use your Internet browser. Select the device you are looking for on the left.
  • In the window that opens, you will see the options “Let ring”, “Lock device” and “Delete data from device” on the left. Select the desired option.
