Dropbox doesn't sync - what to do?

If Dropbox stops syncing your data, there could be several reasons. You can fix common problems in just three steps.

1. Dropbox not syncing: Check your internet connection

If Dropbox does not synchronize your data, for example not under Windows 10 or Windows 11, the first thing you should do is always look at the Internet. Therefore, first check whether there is an active internet connection.

  • To do this, look at the bottom right of the taskbar to see whether the WLAN symbol shows a connection bar or the LAN symbol shows a computer with a cable.
  • If this is not the case, no website can be accessed via the browser. Establish an internet connection. This could perhaps fix the error.



2. Verify Dropbox login

After you've made sure you're connected to the Internet, make sure you're signed in to Dropbox.

  1. Click the Dropbox icon at the bottom right of the taskbar. A small window opens.
  2. Here you can click on the gear symbol in the top right and select “Settings”.
  3. Go to the Account tab and log in again if you are logged out.

3. Resume paused synchronization

Maybe Dropbox received incorrect information and the synchronization is just pausing.

  1. Click the Dropbox icon at the bottom right of the taskbar. A small window opens.
  2. You may find the entry “Continue synchronization” using the gear symbol.
  3. If the dot is visible to you, click on it to start the synchronization again.
