Many fans want “Elden Ring 2”, but so far there are no concrete plans – nor is there a certain cancellation from the developers.
“Elden Ring 2”: So far only the “Elden Ring” expansion has been released
Elden Ring is an award-winning role-playing game written by fantasy author George RR Martin. Since then, many fans have wanted a sequel to the game. So far this has not happened.
- In June 2024, the “Elden Ring” expansion “Shadow of the Erdtree” came onto the market. It is the first expansion of the game.
- In an interview with “Zhihu”, director Hidetaka Miyazaki made it clear that there would be an expansion, as “xboxdynasty.de” reported. In his opinion, there are enough possibilities for another game set in the intermediate country. However, Miyazaki did not comment on how likely the development of an “Elden Ring 2” is.
- After all: The “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion is available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
- The setting of “Shadow of the Earthtree” is a completely new land. It's a brand new map, separated from the lands in between and overshadowed by the special shadow of the Earth Tree.
- Players should expect a similar experience to the base game. It will be structured similarly with open field maps, with large-scale dungeons and also with small to medium-sized legacies.
“Elden Ring 2” is not yet planned – but not ruled out either
In March 2024, Hidetaka Miyazaki commented on the topic of a sequel to “Elden Ring” in another interview, this time with “IGN”. The answer is unlikely to completely satisfy fans.
- “We don't want to say that this is the end of the Elden Ring saga for now,” says Miyazaki, adding: “We don't want to discourage the possibilities for it. There may be more ideas in the future.”
- Ultimately, Miyazaki becomes a little more specific: “We currently have no plans for a second DLC or a sequel, but we definitely don't want to rule out this possibility. We think there could definitely be something in the future.”
- However, there remains at least some hope that fans will be able to look forward to a sequel to “Elden Ring” at some point.
- “Elden Ring” is an open-world action role-playing game and is one of FromSoftware’s most successful games. In a press release from February 2024, the developer was happy about 23 million copies sold worldwide.
- At the same time, FromSoftware emphasized that it would be a surprise if they didn't build on this success. Another little glimmer of hope for the fans.
