Use iPhone music as a ringtone: This is how it works with iTunes

Using iTunes, you have the option to set your favorite music or other sounds as a ringtone on iPhone. However, iTunes is no longer supported for macOS versions after macOS Mojave. Alternatively, you can purchase ringtones from the iTunes Store. The following steps work up to macOS Mojave:

  1. First, open iTunes on your computer. Then select the song you want from your music library and right-click on it. In the context menu select “information“. A new window opens in which various tabs are displayed.
  2. Navigate to the tab “Options“. Here you can now set the start or end time of the song. This is useful if you only want to use certain passages of the song as a ringtone. Confirm the selection with “OK“.
  3. Go back to your music library overview and search for your edited song using the search function within iTunes (Ctrl + F). Once the shortened song has been found, right-click on it again in the menu item “Create AAC version“.
  4. Then drag and drop the new version from your computer's Explorer panel directly into your folder.Tones” for the option “Device management” bottom left. Depending on the computer system, the names may differ.
  5. Connect your iPhone to the computer using a USB cable and sync it. After successful synchronization, you will find your individual ringtone under the tones in your settings on your iPhone.
