58 euro ticket: When, where and for whom the Germany ticket is valid

The 49 euro ticket will become the 58 euro ticket from January 1, 2025. Even if the price changes, much else remains the same.

49 euro ticket becomes 58 euro ticket: Important information at a glance

For three summer months in 2022, the 9-euro ticket was considered the best seller to lure people back into public transport, then the 49-euro ticket followed from May 1, 2023. In total, both of these ticket types now result in the new price of the nationwide Germany ticket, which applies from January 2025.

  • The 49 euro ticket is initially designed for two years from May 1, 2023, but will cost a full nine euros more from January 1, 2025. However, this dynamic increase was already officially taken into account.
  • Those interested can purchase the 49 euro ticket online. You can subscribe to the ticket via Germany ticket app (for Android and for iOS) from Hansecom Public Transport Ticketing Solutions and via your Germany ticket from Mobility Inside.
  • Students can use their study certificate to opt for the Deutschlandticket, which was available to them at a reduced price of 29.40 euros. However, the price will also increase – to almost 35 euros, which will only apply to students from the winter semester of 2025/2026.
  • The validity of the 49 euro, soon 58 euro ticket continues to cover all local transport. This includes local trains as well as buses, trams and S-Bahn trains. According to Section 2 of the Regionalization Act of the federal states, those means of transport that do not exceed a radius of up to 50 kilometers or are within a travel time of up to one hour are considered part of public transport. The ticket is valid nationwide and thus saves its users from having to fight through complicated tariff offers in different cities and municipalities.
  • The 49 euro ticket can be canceled monthly, just like the 58 euro ticket. Children cannot ride for free, nor can dogs. You also have to buy an additional ticket to transport your bike. You cannot transfer the ticket to another person.
  • Companies receive a five percent discount when purchasing, but only if they pass on the ticket to their employees for at least 25 percent less.
