The so-called “active corners” on the Mac or MacBook can be easily switched on or off. But it is definitely worth using the feature.
Turn off active corners on the Mac – here's how to do it
Of course, Apple always tries to score points with something special in order to be at least one step ahead of the competition. This has certainly been achieved with the so-called active corners on the Mac or MacBook. However, if your enthusiasm is limited, you can switch off the active corners at any time and thus deactivate the function.
- Practically, you have the option to decide for yourself whether you want to turn off all active corners on the Mac or just individual ones.
- Open the Mac's “System Preferences” and go to “Desktop & Screen Saver.”
- Switch to the “Screensaver” tab and click on the “Active corners…” button at the bottom right.
- For each of the four corners, open the corresponding drop-down menu and select “-“. The active corners are now deactivated.
Turn on and configure active corners on the Mac
Each of the four “active corners” can be assigned a function. For example, you can use this feature to quickly access the desktop or launchpad when you navigate to the respective corner of the display with the mouse cursor. You decide for yourself which function the Mac uses in each corner:
- After going into “System Preferences,” select the “Screen Saver” tab under “Desktop & Screen Saver.” There click on “Active corners…”.
- Here you can choose an action for each corner. For example, you specify that the monitor should go to sleep when you move the mouse to the bottom right corner.
- Apple has provided a total of five actions for the four corners, but each of the active corners can only be assigned one function. Which corner you equip with which feature is up to you. You can also swap out the features as often as you like.
