Android Beam – this is how it works

Android Beam - this is how it works

Android Beam is a handy feature for sharing data between devices. However, this has no longer been offered since Android 14.

Activate Android Beam and share data

If you want to quickly exchange data between two Android devices, Beam is a practical function. If the cell phones have an NFC chip installed and have Android 4 or a higher version, you can easily use the service. But as of Android 14, the function has been abolished.

  • To activate Android Beam, go to the “Settings” on your device and select “Wireless & networks” and then “more”.
  • Enable the switch on NFC. There you will find the entry “Android Beam”. Select this and activate the associated switch.
  • Now your device is ready to send and receive files via NFC.
  • For example, to share, open a photo on a device.
  • Hold both Android Beam-enabled devices with their backs together.
  • The words “Touch to beam” appear on the device with the photo. Now when you touch the screen, the other device receives the photo.
  • Of course, you can share not only photos, but also videos, websites, contacts and much more.

Android Beam discontinued – alternatives for newer smartphones

There are numerous ways you can quickly and easily transfer data from one Android device to another – even without Android Beam.

  • The successor to Beam is called Quick Share. All you have to do is activate your Wi-Fi.
  • Another alternative to Android Beam is the Airdroid tool. This also allows you to transfer data to your PC.
