Android: How to disable mobile internet

If the mobile Internet is not needed on an Android smartphone, it may make sense to deactivate it.

Disable mobile internet on an Android via the quick settings

To deactivate the mobile internet on your Android device, the quick settings offer the easiest and fastest method. You save yourself the trouble of going through deeper menus and access is possible with just one swipe:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen on your Android smartphone.
  2. Open the advanced quick settings menu by swiping down again.
  3. Look for the icon labeled “Mobile Data” or a similar term, depending on your device manufacturer.
  4. Tap the icon to turn off mobile data. The icon will be grayed out or crossed out once mobile internet is turned off.
  5. Sometimes these options are hidden behind other icons, depending on the manufacturer such as Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi. If the icon is not immediately visible, you can drag it to the first row of quick settings using the pencil icon (in the quick settings).

Disable mobile internet via Android settings

If you prefer something more thorough or don't have access to the quick settings, you can also disable mobile internet directly via the Android settings. This method is also useful if you want to make further adjustments to the network settings at the same time:

  1. Open the “Settings” on your Android device.
  2. Navigate to “Connections” or “Network & Internet” – depending on the Android version and manufacturer.
  3. Select the menu item “Mobile network”.
  4. There you will find the switch “Mobile data” or “Data connection”. Turn it off to disable the mobile data connection.
