Bloodborne 2: What we know about the release and how we imagine the content

Since the success of Bloodborne, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel. Bloodborne 2 could expand the world of Yharnam with dark vaults, enchanted forests and blood-soaked creatures. Unfortunately, there is no concrete information about the game yet. Read here what the rumor mill is currently doing and how we would imagine a sequel.

Bloodborne 2: Are there any release details yet?

“Bloodborne 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the dark action role-playing game from FromSoftware, continues to cause great excitement among fans. Rumors of a second part have been around for many years, but nothing has become concrete to date. So officially Bloodborne 2 is not yet in development (as of August 2024).

  • Release date: If FromSoftware announces Bloodborne 2 with a trailer, it shouldn't be too long before the title is finally released. Until the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, most of the developer's titles were released less than a year after being announced. Bloodborne, for example, was announced at E3 in June 2014 and released in May 2014. The same thing happened with Sekiro in 2018 and 2019.
  • Daniel Richtman, a leaker, has been claiming to have heard for some time that an unannounced Bloodborne project is in the works at Sony. He cites his internal sources at Sony. However, he does not know exactly what it is about. So it does not have to be Bloodborne 2, but could also be a remake or a remaster of the now 10-year-old original.
  • Platforms: Assuming Bloodborne 2 becomes a reality, it is likely that the game will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 like its predecessor. A release on other platforms, such as the PC, is conceivable, but there are no concrete indications of this so far. Other exclusive titles, such as God of War: Ragnarök, took around 1.5 years to also appear on the PC.
  • Beta-Tests: If Bloodborne 2 does indeed go into development, it's likely that, like previous FromSoftware titles, there will be beta testing. These tests would give players the opportunity to experience the game before release and provide feedback that could be incorporated into the final version.

Contents and game mechanics of Bloodborne 2: This is how we imagine it

Bloodborne 2 will certainly bring back the dark and gripping gameplay that fans of the series love. The question is, in what form?

  • Setting: Since there is no official information, we can only speculate about the setting of Bloodborne 2. However, it is likely that the dark, gothic setting of the predecessor will be retained. In fan circles, there is an idea that Bloodborne 2 could take place in the desert land of “Loran”. Perhaps it will lean even further on the stories of HP Lovecraft in terms of style and we will get to see other areas such as the fishing village from the “The Old Hunters” DLC.
  • Story and Lore: The deep and complex narrative of the original is expected to continue. Again, it remains to be seen how the story continues, as no official details have been announced yet.
  • Gameplay: Fans can expect the fast and precise combat system that made Bloodborne so popular to return in a potential sequel. New weapons, abilities and mechanics could be added. We could imagine that a kind of “posture” system, like in Sekiro, could make its way into Bloodborne 2. This would expand on the fast combat system of the original.
  • If you look at the previous games from From Software, you will notice that some gameplay features have “migrated” from one game to the next. We could therefore imagine that Bloodborne 2 also has quite a few parallels to Elden Ring. Whether this will be reflected in an open world or, for example, in a new “crafting” aspect is of course still up in the air.
  • We think it's unlikely that Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will have an influence, but who knows: Maybe we'll build our own organic mecha in Bloodborne 2 and use it to fight against hordes of hungry beasts. After all, Bloodborne fans are no strangers to creative mashups, especially since the creative “Nightmare Kart.”
  • Multiplayer-Modus: We think it is very realistic that Bloodborne 2 once again offers a cooperative and competitive multiplayer mode. Improvements in network stability and matchmaking could further optimize the online experience.
  • Graphics and sound: With the power of the latest consoles, Bloodborne 2 can create an even more realistic and terrifying world. High-resolution textures, dynamic lighting and atmospheric sound effects add to the immersion and enhance the game's dark mood. We could imagine that the graphics quality will be at least on par with that of the Demon's Souls remake.
  • Extensions and updates: As with other FromSoftware games, regular updates and expansions could follow after release, keeping the game exciting and fresh for a longer period of time.
