The can opener on the pocket knife is a valuable tool for at home or on the go. It allows you to open any can easily and precisely.
Using a can opener on a pocket knife – this is how it works
There are various ways to open canned goods or tins when camping, barbecuing or in the kitchen at home. In addition to the classic can opener, it is also possible to use a spoon to open cans. The easiest way, however, is to use a can opener on a pocket knife. These work simply and reliably.
- You can open a can either by the lid or the bottom of the can. Always place the can on a flat, level surface to avoid injury when using the can opener.
- The can opener on the pocket knife is very easy to use. Place the can opener at a slight angle to the can. The cutting edge is now directly on the inside edge of the can, while the hook is on the outside edge of the can. Also hold the can firmly with your other hand so that it does not slip when opening.
- Now press the blade of the can opener carefully but with pressure into the can. It will sink a little into the can's metal. Then pull the opener out of the can.
- Place the can opener at the end of the hole you have already made and press another opening into the can. Continue working clockwise until you can remove the lid from the can.
- Be careful, however, as the edge of the can lid can be very sharp and can cause injuries to your fingers. If you do get a cut, clean it and cover it immediately with a suitable plaster to prevent the wound from becoming infected.
Care and user tips to ensure that the can opener on the pocket knife remains intact in the long term
The can opener on the pocket knife is a practical tool. It can open various cans, the contents of which you can then pour into pots, pans or directly onto the plate. However, clean your can opener carefully after each use so that it remains functional for a long time.
- Remove any food residue after each use. This way, the can opener not only stays attractive, but can also be easily stored in your pocket knife.
- It is best to use a kitchen towel for cleaning. Clean your can opener on both the blade and the hook so that all areas remain hygienically clean.
- You can also remove stubborn dirt with a sponge and some washing-up liquid. Use homemade washing-up liquid or a purchased product – both options serve the purpose. Alternatively, use an old toothbrush and some toothpaste. The bristles also reach the inside of the pocket knife and reliably remove dirt.
- Then dry your can opener carefully before putting it back into the pocket knife. If the opener is difficult to use, use a little special oil. You only need a little oil, but the effect is immediately noticeable.
