If you no longer want to be an active member of the largest social network, you can deactivate your Facebook account. This can be done with just a few clicks.

How to deactivate your Facebook account

If you are not sure whether you want to use Facebook again in the near future, you can deactivate your profile for the time being instead of deleting it completely. Your data will remain stored but will no longer be visible to anyone.

  1. Log in to your Facebook account and click on your Facebook profile picture in the top right corner of the screen. Then click on “Settings and privacy” and then on “Settings”.
  2. At the top left of the settings menus you will see the “Account Overview”. There you have the option to deactivate the Account Overview. If the “Account Overview” is in the “Settings” menu at the bottom left, deactivate the account via the Facebook settings.

Permanently delete Facebook account

If you want to permanently delete your Facebook account, you can make the appropriate settings.

  1. On Facebook, click on your profile picture in the top right corner. Then select “Settings and privacy” and then go to “Settings”.
  2. Now click on “Account overview” at the top leftand then click on “Account Settings” and then click on “Personal Information”.
  3. In the next step, click on “Account ownership and settings”, click on “Deactivate or delete”. Now you have to select the Facebook account or profile that you want to delete. Click on “Delete account”. Now click on “Further” and then confirm.
