Many consumers wonder whether the Deutschlandticket – 49-euro ticket or 58-euro ticket – is a monthly or annual offer. In fact, it is a subscription model.
Can the Deutschlandticket (49-euro ticket or 58-euro ticket) be cancelled monthly or annually?
The nationwide Deutschlandticket or 49-euro ticket officially launched on May 1, 2023. With the Deutschlandticket, travelers, commuters, etc. can travel cheaply throughout Germany with a kind of flat rate. From January 1, 2025, the price for the so-called Deutschlandticket will increase by nine euros, rising to 58 euros per month. Either way, the question remains whether this is a monthly or annual offer.
- Both the 49-euro ticket and the future 58-euro ticket are offered as subscriptions, but the ticket is only valid for one month. In concrete terms, this means that after one month has passed, you do not have to buy a new ticket, as was the case with the previous 9-euro ticket, but the subscription is automatically extended for another month.
- The public transport flat rate is therefore a continuous subscription. However, contrary to assumptions, it is not an annual subscription, but a monthly cancellable offerThe minimum term for the Deutschlandticket is one month.
- The Deutschland-Ticket can be cancelled by sending an email to [email protected] (subject “Cancellation”) stating the contract number or simply using the apps used to take out the digital subscription. For example, there is the Deutschlandticket app from Hansecom Public Transport Ticketing Solutions and Dein Deutschlandticket from Mobility Inside.
Deutschlandticket: 49 euros only valid during “introductory phase”
The government intends the nationwide public transport ticket for 49 euros to be a permanent offer. However, the price only applies to a so-called “introductory phase”. In September 2024, the states decided to increase the price by nine euros. This means that the Germany ticket will cost 58 euros from January 1, 2025.
- The 49 or 58 euro ticket is valid throughout Germany for all regional transport by bus, S-Bahn and U-Bahn, trams and regional trains. Not included are journeys on IC, ICE and long-distance buses.
- The 58 and 49 euro tickets are available in digital versions – i.e. via an app or the websites of the transport associations. The Deutschlandticket can also be purchased at the counter of Deutsche Bahn or other transport companies. The ticket is not available from the machine, however.
- By the way: Children up to the age of six can travel for free on their parents' Deutschlandticket. This also applies to the 58-euro ticket.
