Display an upside down question mark in Word

You can get an upside down question mark in Word using a key combination on your number pad. The punctuation mark is at the beginning of the Spanish interrogative sentence.

With this key combination you create the upside down question mark

Please note that you must enter the numbers for the key combination using the number pad on your keyboard.

  • ALT + 168: Hold down the ALT key and enter the numbers 168 one after the other. The following punctuation mark appears: ¿
  • In Spanish it means, like the normal question mark, question mark. The reverse question mark begins the interrogative sentence and the normal question mark ends it.
  • ALT + 173: And that too reverse exclamation marks you can get it using a key combination. ALT+173 (¡) introduces the Spanish exclamatory sentence and a normal exclamation mark ends it. This punctuation mark is called in Spanish exclamation mark.

In Word you also have the option of setting your own shortcut for a symbol or inserting it directly into the taskbar.

  1. To do this, go to the tab “Insert” and click “Symbol” far right.
  2. Under “More symbols” a window opens. Select the upside down question mark or upside down exclamation mark here.
  3. Now you can use the button Keyboard shortcut Set a custom keyboard shortcut or the symbol by clicking on the button “Insert” insert directly into the document.
