Does the 49 euro ticket also apply to ICEs? Simply explained

With the new price, the question remains as to whether the 49 euro ticket also applies to the ICE. Despite the change in price, the validity does not change.

49 euro ticket is still not valid for ICE

The 49 euro ticket is available under the name “Germany ticket” usable since May 1, 2023. With 01.01.2025 the price now increases by nine euros and the ticket becomes one 58-Euro-Ticket. However, the validity remains unchanged.

  • It is the successor to the successful 9 euro ticket, which was introduced for three months in summer 2022. The Germany ticket will now cost 58 euros per month from 2025. It can be canceled every month.
  • The Germany ticket is still valid nationwide in all vehicles Regional and local transport. It is therefore valid on regional trains, buses, S-Bahn and subway trains.
  • If you are unsure whether your transport association is also included, it is best to find out more on the website of the respective transport company. In the Deutsche Bahn app you will often also find information about the validity of the route you have selected.
  • However, the former 49 euro ticket is not valid for long-distance transport and for first class journeys. So if you, for example, with the ICEEC or IC, you still need one Extra ticket for that. This does not change even as the price of the ticket increases.
  • Trips with private transport companies such as FlixTrain are also not included in the ticket.
  • Even in exceptional cases, you cannot use long-distance trains with the Deutschlandticket. This was previously possible if regional and local trains were delayed by at least 20 minutes. The regulation has been in effect since then15.08.2023.
  • You can get the 49 euro ticket regularly via the Deutschlandticket app from Hansecom Public Transport Ticketing Solutions and your Deutschlandticket from Mobility Inside. Alternatively, you can buy the ticket at the counter in your train station.
  • You can still carry the ticket with you on your mobile phone or in the form of a chip card in a case. This also remains the same with the higher price.
