DOTA 3: Information about release and content

DOTA 2 is a hugely popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game developed by Valve, and its fans are already waiting for DOTA 3.

When is DOTA 3 coming out?

There is currently no official announcement from Valve confirming the development of a “DOTA 3”. Rather, the information so far suggests that Valve will continue to rely on continuous updates and expansions for DOTA 2 to keep the game relevant and exciting, rather than developing a completely new version.

  • Patch 7.00, also known as “The New Journey,” brought massive changes so extensive that some players began to call it a sort of “DOTA 3.”
  • This patch introduced, among other things, a new hero (Monkey King), a revised interface, profound changes to the map and new game mechanics
  • The “New Frontiers” update in 2023 also brought significant changes. It expanded the DOTA 2 map, introduced new building types, and implemented numerous balance adjustments to further refine the gaming experience.
  • Although there are rumors and discussions about a possible Dota 3, it remains unlikely that Valve will release a new version of the game in the short term. Instead, the game will likely be adapted to the changing needs and expectations of players with regular updates and improvements.

What is DOTA about?

In DOTA 2, two teams of five players each compete against each other. Each team controls a base on opposite sides of a symmetrical map:

  • The goal of the game is to destroy the opposing team's base, more specifically their “Ancient” – a large structure located deep within the opposing base.
  • Each player controls a unique hero with special abilities. Choosing and mastering the right hero is crucial to the team's success.
  • In the game, heroes can earn gold by destroying enemy units (creeps), heroes or buildings. This gold is used to buy powerful items that can improve the hero's abilities and significantly influence the gameplay.
  • DOTA 2 requires a high level of strategic depth, as players must anticipate not only their own skills and items, but also the movements and decisions of their opponents.
