Funcom's upcoming open-world survival MMO “Dune: Awakening” promises to transform the epic universe of Frank Herbert's “Dune” into an exciting video game experience – but within an alternate timeline in which the film's protagonist Paul Atreides was never born. Players can look forward to a huge desert world, intense battles and in-depth survival mechanics.
- The goal is to expand your own power on Arrakis with the help of resources and alliances and, of course, to defeat enemies.
- An exact release date has not yet been set. Officially, it has so far been narrowed down to the first quarter, i.e. a period between January and March 2025. At least for the PC version.
- A launch date for consoles has not yet been announced. However, you will only be able to play “Dune: Awakening” on your PC, PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X/S, and no longer on Xbox One and PS4.
- According to Funcom, anyone who wants to play the beta version can sign up for the beta on the Dune Awakening website. To do so, register using your email address.
- There was already a small closed beta group that was supposed to provide constructive feedback on the game. However, there have already been several new test phases, so you can still sign up for them.

“Dune: Awakening” is described as an open-world survival MMO that takes place in the vast and dangerous desert world of Arrakis. Players must not only assert themselves against the deadly environment, but also against other players and factions. The game will offer a mixture of exploration, resource management, base building and PvP battles.
- A special highlight are the gigantic sandworms that roam the desert landscape of Arrakis and pose a constant threat. The creatures are not only dangerous, but also a source of valuable resources that must be conquered.
- Players will be able to build their own bases, forge alliances, and assert themselves in Dune's interplanetary power struggles.
- The adaptation and development of your own character will play a central role, with players being able to learn various skills and abilities to survive in the harsh world. Right at the start of the game, it is therefore crucial which place of birth, which caste and which Metnor you choose, for example.
