In order to make money with YouTube, numerous companies place advertising clips and ads on the video giant. You can use that too.
Requirements to make money with YouTube
To make money from your videos, you need to register with the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Once you have done this, you can easily monetize your videos. However, there are certain requirements that your YouTube channel must meet in order to be accepted for the partner program:
- For the full YPP option, your channel must not have violated the Community Guidelines in the past. You also need at least 1000 subscribers. Furthermore, you will only be accepted into the partner program if your videos have a watch time of at least 4,000 hours in the past 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.
- To be eligible for the Partner Program and monetize your videos, you must also link your YouTube channel to a Google AdSense account.
- If you now want to apply for the partner program, you can do so in the Creator Studio area of your YouTube account. From there, click “Channel” in the menu to verify your account and allow monetization of your videos.
- In the overview of your uploaded videos, you can now monetize videos by clicking on the $ symbol or by clicking on a video and selecting “Monetize” from the menu.
- You now also have a choice between a few different advertisements and can decide which displays you allow for your videos.
- There is also the YouTube Limited Partner Program. All you need is 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days and 3000 hours of watch time or alternatively 3 million Shorts views. You can then offer your fans special features such as linking an official merchandise shop to YouTube or offering channel memberships.
Make money on YouTube
Most content creators on YouTube do not earn their income just by monetizing videos, i.e. placing advertising:
- Many influencers partner with brands to then promote and sell their products on your channel. These partnerships typically yield the most profits. Brands often approach influencers.
- However, you can also allow your audience to fund your content on YouTube through donations. Many creators use Patreon, for example.
- Or you can use YouTube channel memberships. This function allows you to upload exclusive content for specific members, who you support with a small monthly contribution. You can determine the contributions yourself. This also requires membership in the YouTube partner program.
Strong restrictions on YouTube videos
YouTube has set strong content restrictions for monetized videos:
- You must have full copyright.
- Videos that show violence, drugs, pornography, etc. will lead to the termination of the collaboration with YouTube. Sexual humor or videos about controversial political discussions can also be demonetized.
- Of course, you are not allowed to click on your videos yourself or buy video views in order to manipulate the number of clicks.
