If a file is too large for an email, there are solutions that can help you. Compressing is a particularly good method for attachments that are too large.
File too large for mail: Compress email attachments
If you want to send a lot of files or very large images and videos, the email program often crashes as soon as your attachment exceeds 20 MB. It is therefore a good idea to reduce the size of the attachment – this also saves time and hassle if you have a slow internet connection. You can use Windows tools to reduce the size of attachments very easily. All you need is a few clicks.
- Select the files or folders you want to compress. Right-click the folder.
- In the context menu, select the option “Send to“.
- Then click on the item “ZIP compressed folder“.
- A ZIP file will now be automatically created in the same folder. You can attach this ZIP file to the email and send it.

Compress mail attachments on Mac
If you are not working with Windows but on a Mac, you can also compress files with just a few clicks so that you can then easily send them by email.
- Go to Finder.
- Select the files you want.
- Right-click on it and go to “Compress Objects”.
- Attach the zip file to your email.
