Meaning of the IBAN
The International Bank Account Number, or IBAN for short, is a standardized code that uniquely defines each current account. This number is required for all transfers based on the SEPA procedure (Single Euro Payments Area). The SEPA procedure was introduced as a standardized form of transfer instead of the previous euro transfer.
- The structure of the IBAN is quite simple. It starts with the country code (DE), then comes a two-digit check digit, followed by the bank code (8 digits) and the account number (10 digits).
- For transfers abroad, the BIC (Bank Identifier Code) is required, which is essentially an internationally valid bank code.
