Google Calendar: Appointment deleted – what to do?

Google Calendar: Appointment deleted - what to do?

If you have deleted an important appointment from Google Calendar, the entry is not lost forever. There are ways to restore it.

Google Calendar – Undo deleted appointment immediately

If you accidentally deleted an important appointment in your Google Calendar, there is no need to panic. There are ways to “get” the appointment back.

  • As long as you have not performed any other calendar action, you can undo the deletion.
  • To do this, simply click on the “Undo” link that appears above the calendar.

Google Calendar – restore deleted appointment with the Java program

If you believe Google, a deleted appointment cannot be easily restored once it has been deleted and the link to undo is no longer displayed. Fortunately, this is not true. The developer Dominique Andre Gunia (CalenGoo) offers a practical Java program on his homepage for restoring deleted appointments. To use it, the Java Runtime Environment must be installed on your system.

  1. Open the download link in your web browser and download the file.
  2. Run the undeleteevents.jnlp file. You may need to adjust Java security settings for the program to work.
  3. Enter your email address and Google password in the appropriate fields. Then click on the “Sign In” button.
  4. The program will now show you the calendars that are assigned to your account. Select the calendar in which you deleted the appointment.
  5. You will now see an overview of all appointments that have been deleted recently. Select the appointment you want to restore and click “Undelete”. You can also select multiple appointments and then restore them at the same time.
  6. Refresh Google Calendar in your browser.

View deleted appointments in the trash (PC only)

If you use Google Calendar on your PC, deleted appointments are initially stored in the trash for 30 days. If you go to the trash, you can restore these appointments with one click.

  1. To restore events that have been moved to the trash, go to the trash can in Google Calendar via the settings. There you will see all the events that you have deleted from your calendar.
  2. Select the appointment you want to restore. Click “Restore” .
  3. If you want to restore all appointments in the trash, click “Restore selected appointments” above the list.

Google Calendar – manually restore deleted appointments

You can also view the details of a deleted event using the modified home address of your Google Calendar and create a new event based on that:

  1. In the “My Calendars” overview on the left, move the mouse pointer to the calendar in which you deleted the appointment. Now click on the right arrow and select “Calendar Settings”.
  2. In the “Private Address” section, click on the orange XML button. Then click on the URL displayed.
  3. At the end of the URL, add the string “?showdeleted=true&showhidden=true” (without quotes) and then press (Enter).
  4. You will now see the XML feed page of your calendar, which also displays deleted and hidden appointments. In Chrome, you will only see the confusing XML code; Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer are better suited.
  5. Create a new event in Google Calendar based on the information displayed.
