How do I enable Javascript and what does it mean?

Depending on which browser you use, you can activate Javascript in different ways – at least if this has not already been done in a standard way.

Enable Javascript: What Javascript is and why it should be enabled

Javascript is a programming language. It is used to execute complex program sequences in a website. This function should already be activated by default in your browser.

  • A standard website consists of an HTML core. If websites are extended with JavaScript, dynamic content can be used on them, such as animations. JavaScript also allows websites to adapt to their users.
  • This means that only certain parts of websites can be reloaded. Online shops in particular can no longer do without this technology.
  • For this reason alone, you should enable JavaScript. But also so that other web content is displayed correctly and functions as it should.

Enable JavaScript in Chrome

If you want to activate JavaScript in Chrome, you can open a new window via chrome://settings/content/javascriptto your destination. Instead of “blocked”, select “allow”. The longer route is as follows:

  • Select “Settings” from the three dots to the right of the URL bar and then navigate to “Advanced”.
  • There you will find the item “Security & Privacy”, which will take you to the content settings.
  • You can now block the Javascript button below or – as desired – activate it using the recommended permission. Move the “Allowed (recommended)” slider to the right.
  • Javascript is now enabled for Google Chrome. You can exit the settings without making any further changes or security changes.

Enable Javascript in Internet Explorer

In Internet Explorer, navigate to the JavaScript settings via Tools, i.e. the gear icon to the right of the URL bar.

  • To do this, click on “Internet Options” and then go to the “Security” tab. Below this, you can select different zones. You select the “Internet” zone via the custom level.
  • Finally, click on “Adjust level”, look for “Scripting” and activate “Active Scripting”.
  • Click “Active” for “Active Scripting” and “Scripting of Java Applets”.
  • Click “OK” to close everything and confirm the warning. Javascript has now been activated in your Internet Explorer.
