iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus – How they differ
It's not new that Apple releases two smartphone models. These are usually a standard version and a larger and more powerful Pro (or in this case Plus) version.
- Mass: At first glance, it is noticeable that the models differ in size. While the iPhone 16 measures 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 millimeters, the iPhone 16 Plus measures 160.9 x 77.8 x 7.8 millimeters.
- Weight: The difference in size is also noticeable in the weight. At 199 grams, the iPhone 16 Plus is 29 grams heavier than the smaller model. However, the almost 200 grams are still relatively light for a smartphone of this size.
- Display & Resolution: The size of the iPhone 16 Plus is particularly noticeable in the larger display. 6.7 inches compared to just 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16. Accordingly, the resolution of the iPhone 16 Plus with 2796 x 1290 pixels is slightly better than that of the iPhone 16 with 2556 x 1179 pixels.
- Battery: The size difference is noticeable here too. The larger iPhone 16 Plus has a larger battery, which means the model can last up to 27 hours. The iPhone 16, on the other hand, has a maximum of 22 hours. But both values are in the upper range of smartphone options in terms of quality.
- Preis: The differences are not least evident in the price. The iPhone 16 Plus costs 150 euros more than the iPhone 16 in each variant. With the smallest storage size of 128 GB, this means 949 euros for the iPhone 16 and 1099 euros for the iPhone 16 Plus.
This is the same for both models
Apple designed the two smartphone models very similarly. Apart from the size and the associated differences, the models have many parallels.
- Optics: Externally, only the size makes a difference. Apart from that, the models are constructed in the same way. The color options are also parallel for both models. The same applies to the possible connections and buttons.
- Housing & Display: The materials used are also the same. The casing is made of aluminum, both models use the Super Retina XDR displays with Ceramic Shield for protection. The models also share the same values when it comes to brightness. The displays can achieve up to 2000 nits. The quality of the displays is therefore the same, even if the iPhone 16 Plus has a larger display.
- Chip: Apple uses its own Apple A18 chip in both models. Apple's chips have already proven themselves in the past and perform at the highest level.
- Camera: Even the camera is the same in both models. It is a dual camera, although these are now mounted one below the other and therefore take up less space on the back of the phone. The main camera offers 48 MP, while the ultra-wide-angle camera and the front camera each offer 12 MP. Videos are also possible in 4K resolution.
- Action Button: Instead of the classic mute switch, both models now have the Action Button. Users can assign functions to this individually. This can be the mute function, but also quick access to the camera or to various apps.
- Camera key: This new function is located in the form of a button on the bottom right edge of the iPhone models. It is specifically designed for faster access to camera functions. In addition to simply opening the camera, the button can also be used as a shutter release for photos and videos or for individually adjustable functions. This should make the new generation of iPhone even more similar to using a camera.
Tips for making the right choice
If you want to decide between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, you should first and foremost keep your own habits in mind.
- handling: The iPhone 16 offers easy operation and a more compact feel. But if you want a lot of space on the display and don't mind a larger device, you're better off going for the iPhone 16 Plus.
- use: Consider what you use your phone for most. If you watch a lot of videos or often play games on your phone, the iPhone 16 Plus offers you better options. If you prefer to watch videos and play games on your laptop or PC, you don't necessarily need the iPhone 16 Plus.
- In general, the iPhone 16 offers a high-quality, high-end experience. Only those who need the large display or the slightly longer battery life should opt for the iPhone 16 Plus. Otherwise, the iPhone 16 is perfectly sufficient. The new Apple Intelligence features will also be available on both devices.
