Kindle: Delete books - how it works

On the Kindle you can delete books that you have already read or simply no longer want.

Delete books from Kindle reader

The storage space on a Kindle Paperwhite is large, but not infinite, and it is easy to lose track of everything, so you may need to delete a few books every now and then to make room for new ones. Here's how to do it:

  1. Turn on your Kindle and go to the library.
  2. Find the book you want, e.g. “Consumption – Why we buy what we don't need” by Carl Tillessen and click on the three dots to the right of the title.
  3. Here you will see the option “Delete book” – tap it and confirm the process.

Remove e-books from the Kindle app

You can delete books from the Kindle app in a similar way:

  1. Open the Kindle app and locate the book you want to delete.
  2. Long press the cover and then select “Remove from device”.
  3. On Mac, go to the “Downloaded Items” tab on the left and click the book with two fingers. Then select “Delete from device”.

Delete Kindle books from the Amazon Cloud

If you have deleted a book on the Kindle, it is still in the archive and can be loaded back onto the device if necessary. You can only permanently delete a book via the “My Kindle” area on Amazon.

  1. Open the following link and log in with your Amazon account.
  2. Find the book you want and click “delete” on the right.
  3. Confirm the query with “Yes, delete permanently”.
