You can find numerous films available for free on YouTube, but not all content on the platform is legal.
It is legal to watch full movies on YouTube
On YouTube, you will not only find short clips and longer videos that you can stream, but there are also entire films available for free on the platform. If you want to watch them, you don't have to worry about violating any rights.
- As a rule, films uploaded in their entirety to YouTube are legal because the author has given his or her consent. If someone uploads a film without this consent or, for example, films an entire movie in the cinema and puts it online, this is a criminal offense. But only the person who uploads the film is in danger, not you as a viewer.
- If you watch a film on YouTube, you are legally on the safe side: Simply watching films on YouTube is legal. Because on a reputable website you can assume that you will not see any illegal content. And you have no chance of tracking whether copyright has been taken into account.
- YouTube itself takes action against illegal content and removes it from the platform if it is reported by users or creators. The accounts that have uploaded films may also be blocked.
- So you don't have to worry about receiving a warning for illegally streaming films on YouTube, as was the case with websites like Kinox.to or Movie4k.to in the past.
Buy movies on YouTube
YouTube also offers the purchase of films. This is, of course, a completely legal offer.
- Open the YouTube website and go to the “Movies & TV” category in the menu on the left.
- Here you will find many current and older films. You can either rent or buy the films. Many films are available for as little as 2.99 euros, and some cost a whopping 9.99 euros.
- If you select a film, the trailer starts immediately. If you like the trailer, you can buy or rent the film.
- If you buy the film, you can watch it as many times as you want. If you rent the film, you have 30 days to watch it. If you have already started the film, you only have 48 hours left to finish it.
- Payment is made via the Google Account. Here you can select either PayPal or a credit card as a payment method.
