To adjust the volume of MP3 files, you have the choice between various free tools. The functionality is kept simple, so you don't have to spend long getting used to it.
- First download the free software “MP3Gain”. With this you can normalize songs without having to worry about a loss of quality.
- Launch the tool and insert the MP3 file. You can insert individual tracks as well as entire folders using the buttons in the main menu. This is particularly suitable for ripped CDs.
- Then enter a target value to which the songs should be adjusted. For example, if you want to listen to the songs on the go, you should use approx. 3 decibels more due to the ambient noise.
- Now carry out a “track analysis” or “album analysis”: While the selected title is adjusted in the track analysis, the entire folder is adjusted in the album analysis. Then click on “Track Adjustment” or “Album Adjustment”. Your MP3s are now normalized.

- The functionality of wxMP3Gain is similar to MP3 Gain. The tool also offers a few more advanced functions, such as batch processing and volume analysis. - Tip: When adjusting the volume, a target value between 89 dB and 94 dB is often useful in order to achieve a good balance between sound quality and volume. The popular editing software Audacity, for example, is ideal for more extensive music editing, although it is a little more complex.
