“My Pictures” can no longer be opened – what should I do?

If you no longer have access to the “My Pictures” folder under Windows, you must obtain the appropriate access rights.

My Pictures folder: View and change permissions

To change permissions in Windows, you must be logged in as an administrator. If this is you, you can proceed to the next steps:

  1. Right-click the “My Pictures” folder and click “Properties” in the context menu.
  2. On the tab, click “Security.”
  3. Now click on your name under “Group or user names” to see what permissions you have.
  4. Now click on “Edit” and a window called “Permissions for 'My Pictures'” will open. There, click on your name and tick the “Allow” box. To view files you need read permissions. However, full access is recommended for your “own files”.
  5. Close all windows by clicking “OK”. You should now be able to view and edit your photos, images and files again.
