Play Terraria in multiplayer - here's how

You can play Terraria together with others in multiplayer. This is possible either via the IP or Steam variant.

Play Terraria in multiplayer: IP Host & Play

In order to play Terraria with others, you need a server. The game offers integrated serverswhich you can use without any further preparation.

Launch Terraria. Click in the main menu Multiplayer and then up Host & Play. Now choose the character you want to play with or create a new one.
Now you have to get one more Select worldthat should run on the server. Then enter password for the server.
Now the server will start and other players can join with your IP address and server password Join game. You may still need to set your router so that the server can be accessed from outside.
If you want to join a hosted server, click in the multiplayer menu Join. Then select the character you want to play with on the server.
Now you have to Server IP Address and that Host password input. Terraria connects to the server and you can play in the world.
Danger: Multiplayer in Terraria is only possible if everyone playing is playing the same version.

If everyone playing has the Steam version of Terraria, you can still use multiplayer easier to start.

One person acts again as Host. All players must be friends with the host on Steam.
Start the multiplayer from the main menu and when asked if you want to use Steam multiplayer, choose either Invite only (only with invitation) or Friends only (boyfriends and girlfriends only). Then enter a password and start the server.
Next, open your inventory in the game. Then switch to the Settings (Settings) and click Invite friendsif you do that Friends only-Option have chosen. Now you can invite Steam friends.
Players can use the invitations to tell you join directly. All you have to do is enter the server password.
Invite friends-Servern join via the in-game multiplayer menu. Click on Join via Steam and search for the server of the person you want to join.
If no password is necessary, you can immerse yourself in the world immediately. If not, you have to ask your girlfriend or boyfriend ask for the password.
