The boss Giovanni in Pokémon GO is not easy to find and defeat. But with the right team, you can successfully fight the villain.
How to find Giovanni in Pokémon GO
To find Giovanni, you first have to track him down. The boss of Team GO Rocket is not a permanent guest in the popular game Pokémon GO. He only appears at special events. To even challenge him, you need a Super Rocket Radar.
- To get a Super Rocket Radar, you need to complete the corresponding field research. These only appear in the game during corresponding events.
- Among other research tasks, you must first defeat the Team GO Rocket bosses Arla, Sierra and Cliff. These, in turn, can only be found using a Rocket Radar. To get this, you must defeat six Rocket Grunts in battle.
- If you have received the Super Rocket Radar, it will track down Giovanni. But it is not always the infamous boss who is hiding behind it, because he likes to send out so-called decoy thugs to distract attention from him.
How to defeat Giovanni in Pokémon GO
Finding Giovanni is no easy task. Defeating him is also difficult, so it is important that you use the right Pokémon to stand up to him.
- Once you have found Giovanni, you need to put together the right team to face him. This isn't easy, as he has different Pokémon with him. So first find out who is on his team by challenging him.
- Currently (as of 08/2024), Giovanni always starts the first round with a Normal-type Snobilikat. Good counters against the cat are Pokémon with fighting attacks such as Lucario, Blaziken or Machamp with the Counter attack. The pocket monsters should be well leveled up.
- Use fast charged attacks to strip Giovanni's shields whenever possible, but other Pokémon with fast charged attacks, such as Scizor and Melmetal, are also good for this.
- The second Pokémon in Giovanni's team can be either Nidoking, Garchomp or Rohanmior. Dragon, Fairy and Ice are particularly effective against Garchomp. With a well-leveled Mamoswine and the attacks Powder Snow and Avalanche, you can bring Garchomp to its knees.
- Nidoking is weak against ground, ice, water and psychic. The legendary bird Articuno can also be of great use here. Kyogre is even better suited with its fast charge attack Surf.
- Rhyperior is weak against grass and water and should therefore be fought by Pokémon with these attacks. Torterra, Swampert and Kyogre with high CP and fast charged attacks are a good choice here.
- As a third Pokémon, Giovanni conjures up Shadow Groudon, which can also be caught if you win the battle. To achieve this, you should use a water, grass or ice type Pokémon. For example, Kyogre in Prime, Gewaldro or Rayquaza. Pokémon with Mega Evolution are particularly effective.
