Roblox is strengthening child protection: safety for children is increased with new parent accounts, age labels and limited chat functions.
Roblox: More control for parents through parent accounts
The online gaming platform Roblox, which is popular among young users worldwide, has often been criticized in recent years for inadequate safety precautions for children and teenagers. To address these concerns, Roblox has now announced a series of new security measures specifically aimed at protecting young players.
- One of the most important innovations is the introduction of special parent accounts. These allow parents to track their children's activities on Roblox in detail and control them individually. With these accounts, parents can not only decide what content their child can watch, but also set daily playtime limits. They also have the opportunity to view their child's friend lists and contacts and adjust them if necessary.
New rules and age labels on Roblox
Roblox is also introducing a new content labeling system to help parents choose appropriate content for their children. These “content labels” work similarly to age ratings for films. For example, content labeled “Moderate” is only accessible if parents grant appropriate permission. This allows parents to ensure that children only have access to age-appropriate content.
- In order to further control interactions on the platform, Roblox will restrict chat options for young users in the future. Children under 13 can only use certain chat functions if their parents expressly allow this. In addition, the previous security measure of the parent PIN will be abolished. Instead, parents must create their own account to manage the settings and security for their child's account.
