Setting up iPhone 16: How to do it quickly and safely

As with any new smartphone you buy, the question with the iPhone 16 is how best to set it up at the beginning.

How to prepare to set up your iPhone 16

When setting up your iPhone 16, the first question you need to ask yourself is whether you want to use the quick start or configure the device manually.

  • Before you can get started, however, you should find and prepare a few things that you will need to set it up.
  • This includes, for example, the access data for your personal Apple account. This was previously called Apple ID.
  • It may also be useful to find out the Wi-Fi password so that you can connect your new smartphone directly to the Internet at home.
  • If you plan to transfer your old smartphone's data to the iPhone 16, have your previous device ready as well.
  • If you want to use Apple Pay, you will also need your credit or debit card to set it up.
  • Now all you have to do is insert your SIM card into the device to start setting it up. Use the included SIM needle to open the card slot on the iPhone 16. Insert the SIM card into the slot and then close it carefully.

The quick start option

Apple offers its users the practical Quick Start feature, which allows you to easily transfer your data from your previous phone.

  • To do this, first turn on your iPhone 16 using the side button and then select the desired language, region, salutation and appearance.
  • The iPhone 16 will then search for another nearby device using the Quick Start feature. Place your new and old iPhone next to each other so that the connection can be established.
  • If the correct Apple ID is displayed on your old iPhone, select “Continue”. An animation will now appear on the iPhone 16 that can be scanned with the camera of the old iPhone. Alternatively, you can also perform the authentication manually.
  • Once the message “Complete on new device” appears on your iPhone, enter the code displayed on your old iPhone.
  • When the Transfer Data option appears, tap Transfer from iPhone and accept the terms and conditions. The data transfer will start automatically.

From Android to iPhone 16

If you are switching from an Android device to iPhone 16, transferring your data will work differently, but with the Transfer to iOS app, you can easily complete the process.

  • First, download and install the Transfer to iOS app on your Android smartphone. Make sure that both the iPhone 16 and the Android device are connected to a power source so that neither device runs out of power in the meantime.
  • Turn on the iPhone 16 and hold it near your Android device. Follow the instructions on the iPhone's display to start the setup process.
  • On the iPhone, select the option “Transfer apps & data” and then “From Android”. On the Android device, open the “Transfer to iOS” app, tap “Next” and accept the terms and conditions here too.
  • Decide whether you want to send the app data to Apple automatically or deactivate this option. If necessary, also activate access rights for location and notifications at this point.
  • On the iPhone 16, select “Next” as soon as “Transfer from Android” appears. A code will appear on the iPhone display, which you must enter on your Android device. Connect to the temporary network, select the data to be transferred and complete the process by selecting “Done”.
