On the Steam gaming platform, you can add friends to have quick access to online status and chat with your allies.
How to add a friend on Steam
To expand your friends list on Steam and add a friend, you must know their username or email.
- Log in to Steam with your user data.
- Then click on the “Friends & Chat” tab at the bottom right. Then select the sub-item “Add friend”. It is shown as a logo with a bust and a plus sign.
- Enter your friend's username. The “Add as Friend” button will appear to the right of the player name. If you select this, the player will be added to your friends list.
- After the other person accepts your request, you can see the online status.
Add Steam friends via link
You can also generate a link to add a friend.
- To do this, first go to “Friends” and then to the “Add Friend” menu. Here you will find the “Quick Invite” option.
- Use the “Generate new link” button in the “Or send quick request” section to create a link. You can send this link via email, SMS or messenger. When your friend selects the link, it will be added to your list.
- This link is only valid once, so you will need to create a new one for each friend you want to add via the quick invite.
Add friends using friend code
Each user has an individual friend code. This can also be used to add friends.
- On your friends list, click “Add Friend”.
- A window will open showing your individual friend code. You can either share this or enter your friend's code in the field below.
