Stream Amazon Music via UPnP/DLNA – here's how

Stream Amazon Music via UPnP/DLNA - here's how

You can stream songs from Amazon Music via DLNA/UPnP and choose from one of two options.

1. Amazon Music per DLNA streamen – Echo (Dot)

There are two different ways to stream Amazon Music tracks via DLNA. The problem is that the Amazon Music app itself does not have an integrated DLNA function.

  • Since the beginning of this year, the “Echo (Dot)”, Amazon's in-house digital assistant, has been available in Germany.
  • Of course, Echo (Dot) and Amazon Music work together excellently, so you can simply select “Music & Books” from the sidebar in the Alexa app and then go to “Music Unlimited” under “Music”.
  • You have to link the app and “Alexa” to your Amazon account when you start it for the first time, so that access to your music library should already be guaranteed.
  • However, the prerequisite is the paid subscription model “Music Unlimited”.
  • In order for “Alexa” to play your favorite songs on command, you must set the default music services in the settings of the “Alexa” app under “Music and Media” so that the Echo actually accesses your Amazon music library.

2. Amazon Music per DLNA streamen – BubbleUPnP

If you don't want to buy the Echo Dot, which costs around 60 euros, just to stream your music, there is a cheaper alternative, the BubbleUPnp app. However, it is only available for Android.

  1. A DLNA receiver is required to use the app. You can also use your PlayStation, Chromecast or FireTV stick as such a receiver.
  2. To be able to use the full range of functions, you should pay the low purchase price for the full license of the app. After that, setting it up is easy:
  3. Select “Cloud” in the sidebar and then select the “Amazon Cloud Drive” option. You will now need to log in with your Amazon account to give the app access to your music library.
  4. Now, in the sidebar under “Renderer,” look for the device on which you want to play the music.
  5. Once the app and playback device are connected, you can easily select and stream your songs.
  6. However, you should make sure that you do not close the app, because if you do this, music playback will also stop. It is not a problem to leave the app running in the background; playback is controlled by a notification that appears or the BubbleUPnP app; the Amazon Music app is not required for this.

3. Amazon Music streamen – Bluetooth

Streaming music via Bluetooth is much more cost-effective and less complex than the two options described above:

  • The only disadvantage is that you cannot be more than ten meters away from the receiver. When streaming via DLNA, you only need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Bluetooth receivers are significantly cheaper than DLNA receivers.
  • If you have purchased such a receiver, all you need to do is connect your smartphone, tablet or laptop via Bluetooth. You can then easily control playback using the Amazon Music app.
